Subscription boxes can be found for virtually any product…books, jewelry, food, shaving, pets, clothing, brides-to-be. However, beauty boxes (including beauty-related categories) continue to be the most popular. According to a 2017 report featured on Subta.com, women make up over 60% of the 5.7 million subscription box subscribers.
But why’s it so exciting to receive one of these subscription packages in the mail? What’s the allure of receiving a box full of items you know nothing about? I mean, it’s easy to go shopping, get personalized recommendations from a sales associate, and try on most of the products in person before deciding on what to purchase.
I believe the subscription box industry is thriving because of the element of surprise, the excitement of receiving a gift (even if you get to customize the gift before it’s mailed to you!) And women are taking advantage of this and giving themselves the gift of surprise, maybe as a form of self-love? Well, that may be going a bit deep for us here, but I can say with confidence that I love a good subscription box too!
FabFitFun versus Boxycharm BoxyLuxe
I recently posted two unboxing videos on my SybilTravels YouTube Channel about seasonal (think quarterly) subscription boxes. Both are beauty boxes, but that’s really where the similarities end.
FabFitFun’s a quarterly beauty and lifestyle subscription box. Subscribers can choose to pay $49.99 quarterly with 2-3 opportunities to customize your box. (Click HERE and enter code SPRINGLOVE to get $10 off your first box!) When you choose to pay annually, you receive a small discount (~$5 per season or $20 total); however, you become a Select Access Member with 2-3 additional opportunities to customize your box. Score!
The customization options have been excellent IMHO. I usually have a hard time choosing between the options, so I just purchase my other choices and the additions are billed to me at only $10 each. For example, in this box, I had a choice of the backpack pictured, a floral robe, and an aromatherapy diffuser, so I selected the backpack and purchased the other two as an add-on. I did the same for the sunglasses choice. Even if I don’t use the extras, they are great to give away as gifts!
The quality of the products have been on point and the options include beauty and lifestyle products that would suit anyone. I highly recommend FabFitFun if you enjoy surprises! It’s a fun way to try new products and make your friends jealous of all your cool new beauty and lifestyle stuff! 😉

Boxycharm’s a monthly subscription box focused solely on beauty products. It costs $21.99 per month for 4-5 full-size products. Click HERE to subscribe for your very own Boxycharm! Every quarter there’s an option for active subscribers to request to be added to the waitlist for BoxyLuxe, which includes 3-4 more full-size items, for an additional $28.99 for a total of $50.98 for the seasonal box.
There are no options to customize with Boxycharm at this point; however, it appears they are working on this as an option in the future. In addition, all of the products are from the beauty industry (think makeup, nail polish, facial creams
While the quality of products is stellar, unless you’re a true makeup lover (and just can’t get enough!), you’ll quickly tire of seeing different versions of the same products each and every month. And, I don’t necessarily see the purpose of adding on even more beauty products in the BoxyLuxe, so I won’t choose this option in the future (unless of
But don’t take my word for it, watch my videos to see exactly what was in each of my subscription boxes and decide for yourself. If you love my videos (as I hope you will 😊), give me a 👍 THUMBS UP 👍 and, please SUBSCRIBE to my channel (and notifications!) for future videos.A
